Founded in 2005, The Artisan Center, located in historic Uptown Martinsville is dedicated to developing artistic talent, enriching lives and educating future artisans by turning peoples’ passion for art into an entrepreneurial opportunity.
The Center, a program of Patrick Henry Community College (PHCC) and an affiliate of The Artisans Center of Virginia, offers enrichment workshops and certificates of study in fine woodworking, glass art, fiber art, jewelry fabrication, and pottery. The 25,000 square-foot facility also features six artisan laboratory classrooms, a conference/meeting area, artist studios, and a fully equipped industrial kitchen used for culinary arts programs. The center also houses the first official Fab Lab in Virginia, a state-of-the-art digital fabrication laboratory that is a partnership between PHCC, the New College Institute, and the MHC Economic Development Corp.
The Artisan Center is the area’s primary center for contemporary craft, design, and artist entrepreneurship education, creative expression, and the mastery of skills for future artisans and innovators.
We invite you to visit our facility, become a member of our organization and take advantage of our numerous creative offerings.
